In a surprising shift, Siaya County Governor James Orengo has expressed support for President William Ruto’s initiative to form a broad-based government.

On August 24, 2024, Orengo joined President Ruto on a working tour in Nandi County before attending a thanksgiving event for Co-operatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya in Kakamega.
During these public appearances, Orengo praised President Ruto for including opposition members in the National Executive, arguing that this move could help address Kenya's political instability.
“I want to thank the president for his commitment to help Raila Odinga to go to Addis Ababa. We know he (Raila) will succeed... Also, our country is one nation. We can have challenges but we ought to unite always,” Orengo stated.
